THESE BULLET JOURNAL KEYS I FOUND ARE MAGNIFICENT. I’M THRILLED THAT I FOUND THESE SIMPLE BULLET JOURNAL KEY LAYOUT AND SYMBOL IDEAS AND THAT I CAN SHARE THEM WITH YOU!
Bullet journal keys are a list of your signifiers and what they mean. The original bullet journal aka “bullet diary” was created for quick note-taking, which meant that the key was essential to breaking the code. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to write in code so my sister couldn’t read my diary.
Bullet Journal key symbols are also perfect for those of us who thrive on being super productive. Today, I would coin bullet journaling as the ultimate “Bullet Journal Productivity Method” – if I had to name it anything 😉
Before we get started sharing the magnificent bullet journal keys and hacks I have found, lets give you a few tips.
SOME HACKS AND TIPS :
-
Don’t over complicate your keys. What I found it that the more signifiers a person has, the less likely they are to use them.
-
Consider color-coding alongside your symbols – it makes it fun, especially on those days when you could use some cheer.
-
Put the key somewhere that is easy to find, like the front inside cover.
-
And finally, another bullet journal hack is to tape the key onto a page so that it folds out. Then you can find it super easy from any page. (see the photo below, as an example) And you can do it any way that you want to!
The bullet journal is so customizable so that you can create a journal format however you want! Your bullet journal key is totally customizable to your life!

I often get asked….
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR BULLET JOURNAL VISUALLY APPEALING WITHOUT SPENDING A TON OF TIME?
This really does depend on you. I am a marketer by trade and so I have to be super productive. When I got started bullet journaling, I did a ton of research on different bullet journal keys! I wanted to see which bullet diary with a key would give me the inspiration to create one that was simple & convenient for me. And then it left me time to spend on other parts of bullet journaling like layouts, doodling, and using stickers (my favorite).

Great post! I’ve been wanting to get back into bullet journaling but I’m not gonna lie, figuring out how to set up my key drives me nuts. I did the temporary key with washi tape but never went back and changed it. I’m thinking of doing a setup for September now that I’ve got a few ideas.
Thanks!
I’m trying out Panda journal right now and am fascinated by the concept. I’ve been thinking how to create a diy one
and your post gave me some ideas
Really nice post
I wish I was organized enough to have a bullet journal. This looks awesome! I may just have to give it a shot – I do well with lists and this could help me stay on track with things.
The key is a good idea. I have found that I never remember and get everything all mixed up.
I love all these tips for bullet journals! I always have such great intentions with bullet journals but get side tracked, but with these tips I totally think I can do it this time!
These are great tips! I love the bullet journal idea, even bought one. Just don’t have the time like I want for it!
Wow you are so organized! I just use dashes and bullet points lol
I just can’t stop mentioning that this is really helpful for me !! Thanks for the wonderful post!!
I just start bullet journaling and it’s just amazing. It has allowed me to create the perfect planning suited for my lifestyle plus I truly enjoy decorating. Thank you for sharing these tips and ideas.
I LOVE THIS! I never put as much emphasis as I should on my “key” I love how it can just help organize my thoughts and things to do!
Love this! It’s always so much fun to take a peek at other people’s BuJos, esp if they are NOT too intimidatingly fancy. (Mine is downright ugly by most ppl’s standards.) Love the idea of color-coding sides of pp. I don’t do that but might consider. I group “like” pages under the same entry in my Index (e.g., packing lists or tax-related lists of expenses and deductions), bookmark pp that are in heavy rotation at present, use tab-indexes at the start of each new month to help me find that page’s Monthly calendar/goals/to-do’s/habit tracking, and paperclip together groups of pages when I no longer need to reference them much, so it’s easier to find the further-back ones that I AM still referencing regularly.
while i have not kept a bullet journal yet, love this handy post of tips and ideas that i know i will find useful if i do decide to (which i have been thinking of for a while now)
